In Malaysia, more than 90% of fruits and vegetables are produced by smallholder farmers (less than 1 ha). Despite the high numbers of smallholder farmers and their importance to national food security, many of them have no access to effective sales channels and are heavily relying on middlemen / wholesaler. They have neither transparency on the retail pricing nor guarantee on profitability. Thus many a time there are news of mass dumping of fresh produces due to unsustainable wholesale price. What a waste that is!
